Scott $ 6,717

SOLD for C$1,250.00
Will close during Public Auction
186 nh 141/1501 imageValuable Collection of Mint Commemorative Plate Blocks, 1927 to 1993, all displayed in 69 black stock pages. Includes many expensive blocks and is quite complete in the earlier years. There are also many back of the book issues including airmail, OHMS and G overprints, etc. We noted a 32c Regiments plate block and many other interesting items. A large sampling revealed that all of the stamps are never hinged, and that there are a very few items that have a hinge mark in the margin. We catalogued all blocks up to #320 plus all of the back of the book from the same period in Scott Specialized, and where the plate blocks in the collection did not match the Scott description, we catalogued the stamps only (for example the 50c Bluenose and $1 Parliament are in blocks of four, not six). Scott catalogue value for all pre-1952 blocks comes to $21,600 and there is a further $475 in face value after that. The majority of the collection is very fine centered and fresh, some of the earlier blocks may be fine only. See our many selected scans for a good idea of this lovely collection. 195 O   imageUsed Collector's Duplicates Filling a 64 Page Lighthouse Stockbook, Plus 19 Double-Sided Stock Pages, 1859 to 2008 the main collection of duplicates are in the stockbook, with First Cents, Widow Weeds, Jubilees to the $2, complete Québecs, then with the usual suspects, but often including high values such as the 50c Edward (x2), 50c Bluenose (x2), $1 Parliament (x2), 50c Grand Pré (x3), $1 Cavell (x2), $5 Moose (x16), $8 Grizzly Bear (x14), and so on, with a very good representation of most issues to the end, with both definitives and commemoratives. The black stock pages include an advanced stock of Admirals on 4 pages, and the rest is composed of used multiples (blocks of 4, strips, etc) and many souvenir sheets, from the 1940s to the mid-2000s. Duplication is low at first, then becomes more, with the most we noted being about a dozen examples. Better quality than is usually seen for this type of collection, especially in the modern era, as some of the very early issues can have faults (a lovely appearing 17c Cartier is rebacked).
