979 CVR   image1942 Winnipeg to Kwangtung China, then Returned. Mailed Registered from Winnipeg Sub Post Office No. 4 on DEC 1.1941 and franked with a single $1 Chateau Ramezay, paying the 90c clipper rate plus the 10c registration fee. Arrived Vancouver a few days later (date of transit not clear), with MAIL SERVICE SUSPENDED handstamp in blue applied, as well as a censor tape (C.197) and a return to sender pointing finger. At some point a "passed for export" annotation was written in pen on front. Cover finally arrived back in Winnipeg on AUG.21.1942. Vertical and horizontal fold creases, as well as other small faults, still an interesting cover with a total of 10 c.d.s. cancels on back. Ex. Kalbfleisch. (Scan a) (Scan b) (All Scans)

980 CVR   imageTwo SALVED FROM THE SEA Covers, the first being addressed to Egypt, with an Essex (GB) return address as well as a "Base Office Egypt" large double ring c.d.s. on back dated "1 AUG 44". The second was mailed from the Royal bank of Canada in Ottawa on MAY.27.1940 and addressed to "Col. The Honourable George P. Vanier, c/o the Canadian Legation, Paris France" Vanier was to become the Governor General of Canada. It is endorsed "S.S. Andania" (torpedoed west of the Faroes on June 16) but believed to have travelled on the S.S. Eros which was torpedoed near Ireland on June 7. There is a "No Service / Return to Sender" boxed handstamp as well as a SALVED FROM THE SEA handstamp on front. Accompanied by its contents (an bank receipt for a deposit) and by a detailed write-up by D. Lingard. Both covers have the usual small faults. (Scan a) (Scan b) (All Scans)

982 CVR   image1940 Camp "F" Censored Cover, mailed Berlin on NOV.28.1940 and addressed to "Karl Behringer, German prisoner of War in Canada c/o Chief Postal Censor". The cover has two different censor tapes: a German one and two Canadian ones (Examiner 2555). Received at Base A.P.O. on MAR.12.1941 and sent to "Camp F (in red pencil). 990 PC   image1917 Vimy Ridge Post Card, being an unmailed postcard reading "Auf Wiedersehn" (until we meet again) on the picture side, with a pencil message written in German on the message side, apparently "taken off a dead German Soldier after the battle ... by J. Bird of the 54th Kootenay Battalion" written in pen on the message side. The postcard has mud on it, described in pen as "Mud of Vimy Ridge Battle of Ap 9th 1917". 993 PC Antarctic Expedition imageCollection of Four Different 1901 Scott British Antarctic Expedition Picture Postcards, each with a "ANTARCTIC / S.S. DISCOVERY / EXPdn 1901" postmark on the picture side. All are inscribed on front "Wrench Links of Empire Postcard Series" and numbered 1 to 4 in that series, and all were postally mailed to the same person in Scotland. #1 card is signed by Scott and mailed from London (franked G.B. ½d green) on JUL.31.1901 on the eve of their departure (small corner crease near signature) . Card #2 was mailed from Simontown (Cape of Good Hope 1d carmine franking) on OCT.7.1901. Card #3 mailed from Christchurch NZ (franked N.Z. 1d carmine) on DEC.24.1901. Card #4 was mailed from Christchurch, New Zealand (franked NZ 1d carmine) on APR.25.1904, the first port of call on their return home. 994 CVR British Commonwealth imageLot of Over 550 Interesting Covers, 1940s to 1950s, with mostly First Day Covers, many registered, good frankings (incl. blocks, sets, high values) and a good variety of different countries. Many are addressed to Montreal and we note good receiving postmarks. We note a cover mailed from Baghdad-Ul-Jadeed (Pakistan) in 1948 to Montreal, franked with a mix of India and Pakistan stamps. Also note a plate block of 14 of Iraq 3 fils on a registered parcel piece with GPO Officially Sealed labels, etc. Most are small size, but we note several larger covers as well. 996 CVR Denmark image1866 Pre-UPU Cover Mailed to Canada, mailed on MAR.3.1866 and addressed to Henry Morgan in Ottawa, Canada with a MAR.21.1866 receiver on back. The cover is franked with two Scott #15a (very fine imperforate 1864 16s issues, cataloguing $450 each mint, unpriced used), each cancelled by a numeral in rings, just tied to cover. There is a notation "via England & New York", a red London Paid handstamp, a red crayon "5" and a red "6d" rate marking at left. Cover still encloses a long letter datelined "Frederiksberg per Copenhagen". Appears to be missing one stamp (perhaps the reason for the 6d marking?) else very fine and a scarce pre-UPU cover.
