1870 3c
Indian red, unused (no gum), perfectly centered among four large and even margins, with fresh colour and extremely fine. Accompanied by 1990 Greene Foundation certificate. (Unitrade 37b)
This is likely the most visually stunning example of a mint or unused 3c Indian red in existence. Mint or unused examples in this shade are quite elusive, and finding an example in this superlative quality is a nearly impossible task. (Scan a)

1870 3c
Indian red, used with strong vertical stitch watermark. Deep, rich colour from the earliest printings, very well centered, with light Nova Scotia grid cancel, small ink mark on back (mentioned for the record), very fine. Accompanied by
2009 Greene Foundation Certificate. (Unitrade 37v) Only about a half dozen examples of the 3c Indian red have been found with a vertical stitch watermark. They are not to be confused with stitch watermarks found on later printings, as those
examples are usually very faint due to the lower quality paper used for these later printings. From the half dozen examples in the Indian red shade, most are poorly centered or with faults, leaving this stamp as being clearly the finest recorded
example. (Scan a)

1870 3c
Indian red, perforated 12½, unused (no gum), with deep, rich colour and a wonderfully fresh example of this rare mint stamp. Fine-very fine. Accompanied by 1986 Greene Foundation certificate. (Unitrade 37d)
Only eight mint or unused examples of the 3c perf 12½ are recorded. Taking into consideration the lovely colour, perforations and overall "bloom" of this stamp, this example is arguably the second finest example, with only the ex-Dr. Clare Jephcott
and Bill Simpson example being finer (this stamp sold for $26,000+15% in 2014). Provenance: Julian Smith (1986). (Scan a)

1870 3c
deep rose on thick, soft paper, mint with full matte whitish gum, hinged. Deep, rich colour and very well centered. Very fine. Accompanied by 2014 Greene Foundation certificate. (Unitrade 37i)
The 3c deep rose on thick, soft paper caused problems during the perforation process due to the thickness of the paper. As a result, stamps from this printing are normally poorly centered. More importantly, the 3c deep rose on thick, soft paper is a
very rare stamp in mint condition. Based on our research, we are are aware of only five mint examples of this stamp, four of which are poorly centered, leaving the stamp offered here as the sole well centered example. In our opinion, this is one of
the most important mint Small Queen single stamps in existence, having a combination of quality and rarity that is unequaled. (Scan a)

1888 3c
deep rose carmine, perforated 12x12¼, mint with original gum, very light hinged in one corner. Extremely deep and bright colour, from the short-lived temporary Montreal Gazette printing, nicely centered among very large margins, extremely fine.
Accompanied by 1988 Greene Foundation certificate. (Unitrade 41i) The temporary Montreal Gazette printings of the 3c result in stamps with a colour that is highly prone to fading over time. The specific stamp offered here has a deep rich
colour which is rarely encountered on mint examples as most have somewhat faded over time. In our opinion, stamps in this deep rich colour should be worth a significant premium over the duller looking stamps. Provenance: Ted Nixon
