CHINA 1883 Large Dragon, 1c green, horizontal pair, 3c brown red, single, 5c yellow two singles and a horizontal pair, all thick paper, used on reverse of 1884 cover to Le Havre, France all cancelled by Peking chop in blue with "I.G. Of Customs/Peking" cds and "Customs Shanghai" transit, with blue seal of the Russian Embassy in Peking, passed to the French Post Office where 1fr Type Sage was applied and tied by faint Shanghai cds (with clearer strike alongside), probable Modane transit in red (not very legible), cover with numerous toned spots (some affecting the stamps) and the 3c did not originate on this cover as the rate is 27c and the 3c likely took the place of a missing 5c, still a fine and extremely scarce cover, illustrated on pages 446-447 in "Comprehensive Illustration of Covers of Chinese Large Dragons" by James B. Whang, ex-Sir Percival and Lady David (Image)

CHINA Revenue Stamps 1910 "Imperial Chinese Post" (design similar to U.S. 1c Louisiana Purchase), American Bank Note Company India proof die sunk on card (120x120mm), total of seven designs in lake color, all are foreign countries or "International Postage", several designs are recognizable such as U.S. 1883 2c labeled "International Postage" with value expressed in Brazilian "Reis", and a frame with "PERU" label of an 1899 Cuban stamp and frame of a 100r Brazilian Official, but labeled "New Zealand", etc. (it has been suggested that this is the work of an apprentice engraver to show (and improve) his hand lettering work, with photocopies of George W. Brett's article from the Fall 1979 Essay Proof Journal, discussing this piece in great detail).
