1900 (Nov) large linen coverfront addressed to France, franked with two each 5pf and 20pf, plus 3x10pf "China" overprints, tied by seven undated "Peking Deutsche Post" pmks, with corresponding Registry label, French maritime 16 Nov. 00 octagonal mark at left, v.f., signed Bothe. The German post office in Peking opened on 11 September, with temporary cancels carved from wood used for two months until the permanent metal datestamps arrived. Examples of registered mail from this period are very rare. Also included is a Feld-Postkarte to Germany, with similar, slightly larger temporary pmk (Image)

1886 (28 Aug) 20pf ultramarine canceled by "Kaiserlich Deutsche Postagentur SHANGHAI" cds, v.f., signed Bothe. The German Post Office in Shanghai opened on 16 August, 1886 when its supply of stamps arrived on the "SS Oder." The outgoing mail was canceled 28 August 1886 to coincide with the ship's departure to Germany the following day. This is the Earliest Recorded Cancelation used in German China (Cat No. Mi.V42) (Image)
