1857, 10c. green, horizontal strip of three with good to large margins, 3c. dull red single and 1c. blue all in sound condition (most margins complete) on cover from "ECONOMY Ind. MAR.9" via New York with rectangular framed transit "AACHEN 14.4. FRANCO" and tax-handstamp "12" in red to Laufenberg, Switzerland, on reverse transit of "BASEL BRIEF.EXPEDITION 16.APR. 1857", the 3 c. and one of 10 c. stamps cancelled by superb circular datestamp, the other stamps cancelled by diagonal pen strokes, EXTREMELY ATTRACTIVE AND RARE 35 c. franking to SWITZERLAND (no similar franking is to be found in Siegel's auction archives). 1857 (Jul 13) envelope from New Bedford MA to Singapore, addressed to Captain Lyman Norton of the ship Minstrel, with three 1851-57 10c green types II & III in deep rich shade and 3c type I (faint corner crease at top left), mixed margins, each cancelled by red grids, paying 33c rate via Southampton, despatch cds alongside and Boston transit bs, carried on the Cunarder "Niagara", red "28" credit hs tying one stamp and London "PAID" transit, ms "1" British Colonial credit marking, backflap repaired and some cosmetic improvements around edges, a fine and rare early use to Singapore, the only 1851-56 issue cover to Singapore recorded by Siegel. 3c Dull Red, Type II, bisected vertical half used as 1c, well tied by grid and "THIBODAUX LA APR.6" circular datestamp alongside on printed matter wrapper (only one vertical and one horizontal flap missing) to New Orleans, paying the 1c newspaper or circular rate. FINE AND RARE DIAGONAL BISECT OF THE 3-CENT 1851 ISSUE, PAYING THE ONE-CENT NEWSPAPER RATE. The census of 3c 1851 bisects, published by David Beals in Chronicle 76 and updated by Stanley M.
