UNITED STATES 1901, Pan American Exposition 4¢ deep brown & black PAIR with IMPRINT & PLATE No. 1145, (filing crease through former) tied by RICHMOND, VA oval on 2c stationery bearing purple Richmond OCT 30 1901 REGISTERED (origin) and duplicate BIRMINGHAM NOV 1 1901 receiver.
One of the prettiest covers we have seen of this issue. Sent from an icon of philately, Augustus Dietz who was a writer and editor for the Virginia Philatelist and The New Southern Philatelist. He won the Lindenberg Medal, the Luft Award, and the Lichtenstein Award and, in 1964, was inducted into the APS Hall of Fame. Dietz originally sent the cover containing some treasure to Robert Nelson and upon Dietz death, Nelson returned the cover to the Dietz family as the accompanying note from Robert details. A great piece by itself, but its connection to Augustus Dietz is a wonderful bonus. Sale and Lot Updates Suggested Bid $150-200 (Image)
