1836 Classic Head VF detail but hammered down or smoothed likely from use as jewelry. Evidence of jump ring removal at K12. May still serve as a low-grade type. (Image)

1844-C XF. Charlotte gold is very scarce in all grades, the 1844-C has a mintage of only 11,622 and most were heavily used in the channels of commerce. The rev is a bit weaker than the obv typical of the issue. Garrett and Guth note that "this date is of extremely poor quality w/ weak feather detail on the rev giving the appearance of wear even on coins with little or no circulation." The coin may have been lightly polished but it is still quite acceptable. A significant opportunity for those interested in rare gold. (Image)

1874-CC PCGS XF40. Nice original. One of the more available "CC" double eagles if there is such a thing. However, most examples are heavily worn, and AU+ and low-grade Unc coins are decidedly rare. At XF40, the present coin represents a good combination of quality and price. (Image)

1813 Capped Bust F+ detail w/ rim damage above Liberty's head consistent with mount or jump ring removal. The damage on this coin is typical of circulated examples of gold coins of the era. All Capped Bust Half Eagles are scarce and rarely offered at auction. Despite the imperfections, the present coin represents an affordable example of a very scarce early type. (Image)

1846-O Liberty Good. Garrett & Guth note that this issue is a serious condition rarity w/ most examples well-worn. The present coin certainly attests to that fact. It may be valuable as a curiosity in that it is rare to encounter a gold coin with as much natural wear as this one has. Inspect! (Image)
