1816 (July 27) Entire letter from Lt.-Col. John Mansel to his sister in England with indistinct India Packet Letter London datestamp, charged 4/3. The Postscript reads "I have succeeded in procuring a small scrap of Bonaparte's own hand writing for your disposal which I will bring home". 1849 (July 9) Cover with enclosed letter from C.B Brown to his mother in England, backstamped boxed "10 SP 1849 / LIVERPOOL / SHIP" with an "8" charge mark. The letter is written at St. Helena en route to England, and describes a terrific storm encountered off the Cape. A fine cover.

1859 (Jan 27) Cover to England, "ST HELENA" embossed flap, signed by P. Pritchard, prepaid 5d in cash with fine red oval "ST HELENA" datestamp and "LONDON / PAID" arrival c.d.s (Feb 28), fine and scarce. Photo on Page 212. (Image1)

1861 (Jan 29) Letter written by Sir Edward Drummond-Hay, Governor of St. Helena, to his friend "Bell", referring to the visit of Prince Alfred, a serving officer on H.M.S "Euryalus" when the ship visited St. Helena in September 1860. The Prince dined with the Governor at Plantation House and attended a ball at The Castle.

1829 Entire, apparently from Cape Town to the Jerusalem Coffee House in London, endorsed "p. Mary via St. Helena", reverse with forwarding agents endorsement "Forwarded from St. Helena p. H.M.S Java 11th November 1829", Portsmouth Ship Letter and London arrival datestamp (Jan 11), charged 1/4. Very unusual, forwarded on a named naval ship. Photo on Page 212. (Image1)

1835 (Sep 28) Entire letter written and signed by William Carroll, to London, "WEYMOUTH / SHIP LETTER" and London arrival c.d.s (Nov. 21), charged 1/6. Carroll writes "Having been the Agent here for many years to all the South Sea owners, makes it a duty incumbent on me, to acquaint you that your ship "Harriet" (Bunker) arrived here this morning from Japan, hailing 1900 barrels sperm oil ....".
