POSTAL CARDS - ESSAY: 1896 Post Office Design Competition entry by "Kangaroo" of a Wrapper ½d Coin design with very elaborate (and thus unsuitable) header incorporating numerous design elements including a train & a spear-toting Aborigine, expertly executed in reddish purple & Chinese white on thin card (315x246mm) with a number of marginal endorsements including "Prize divided" as well as "take out newspaper only", suggesting the design might have been considered for a Postal Card, for which it was clearly more suitable; plus an apparent voting sheet showing this as the most popular entry. A stunning exhibition item, absent from the Walker/Eustis Collection. Sold at our auction of 25.3.2021 for $3775. (Image1)

1856-58 QV Perkins Bacon Adelaide Printings 1d yellow-green SG 6, margins close to good, minor blemishes, Cat £600. RPSV Certificate (2007) as the then SG 5. Larger than Don Pearce's dated example that sold for $366. [We are pleased to see that Gibbons have now combined SG 5 & SG 6 - "green" & "yellow-green" - into a single entry, there being little difference in shade. Most examples in the market are, or are likely to be, SG 13 or 14 (now also amalgamated, as SG 13) with the roulettes trimmed-off. Genuine examples of the Imperf Adelaide Penny are much scarcer than the catalogue value would suggest] (Image1)
