1914 'G.R.I.' Overprints '4d.' on 40pf black & carmine Gibbs #7a, small hinge remainder, four guarantee markings including 'Richter' on the reverse. Bob Gibbs stated about ten mint examples are recorded & that "they may [his emphasis] be from an unofficial printing, but one vertical row of this error of value may well have been part of the official issue". Recorded by Gibbons in a footnote below SG 114 as an "unauthorised surcharge". We believe these deserve catalogue listing, just as has been accorded the similar New Guinea & Marshall Islands GRI errors of value such as the '1d.' on 30pf error SG 64je, Cat £18,000. (Image1)
