1894 stampless Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science cover signed "AL Gregory" over 'PRESIDENT' handstamp allowing for free carriage, to Adelaide but curiously with 'PAID/ALL' marking that was intended for use only on trans-Pacific mail to the United States prior to the Australian Colonies joining the UPU on 1.10.1891. Stated by Hugh Campbell at page 109 to be a "unique" usage. Superb. (Image1)

1860-61 Small Star Clean-Cut Perf 14 at Somerset House 1d rose-carmine (not "carmine-rose") SG 12, excellent colour, a couple of short perfs & cut from the sheet at top & left to preserve the design, with superb part-strike of the Perkins Bacon 'CANCELLED' Handstamp, Cat £10,000. This is Position 1 from the original block of 6: see 'CANCELLED' by Peter Jaffé at page 55, where Position 1 is not recorded. This stamp was apparently discovered only in 2018. Ex 'Dubois' (Part IV) - where erroneously listed as a "proof" - sold for SFr4880. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2018). Six similarly defaced stamps from many Colonies were gifted by Perkins Bacon to Rowland Hill's nephew Ormonde Hill, an egregious lapse of judgment that saw Perkins Bacon lose their stamp-printing contracts. Peter Jaffé's example - Position 4 - sold for $14,950.
