1803 (Dec.11): Early entire letter from Andorra addressed to Mr. Jose Cortadellas (de Calaff) in Barcelona. Written in Catalan with interesting content: "My dear Sir, I receive your esteemed letter dated 6th of this month. I would like to tell you that the giver of this letter should not repair it and deliver what was necessary to release my registered letter and send me to say goodbye. You will have given me as much as I can to satisfy the said part of the money, whereupon Your Majesty will accommodate you and thank you for making the necessary arrangements so that you do not (to) do it but out of the good will that I have with those in your household and for being such good people." Fine and very early example of the merchant's postal service carried in bags by TRAGINERS and their mules or horses, to compete with the official mail for the lowest price. A fine and very early example. (Image)
