Harry von Hofman was a publishing merchant and editor by profession. In the field of philately, he became a BPP expert, an international juror, and worked as a BDPh commissioner at numerous exhibitions abroad. He was particularly interested in philately and postal history from the Baltic States and Russia, which he also covered in numerous publications. Hofmann was one of the giants in German philately, and his exhibits have received multiple Gold and Large Gold medals. The philatelic community has generally recognized his achievements extensively.
