After the PanAm Pacific Clipper service was suspended in December 1941 following the Pearl Harbour attack, mail to England could be carried across the Pacific by ship and accelerated by airmail either from San Francisco at 2/6d per ½oz or from Panama at 3/6d per ½oz.
