Error Coins

Lot No:248

Cat No:Cent on Struck Dime

2000 Lincoln Cent over-struck on the planchet on a previously struck Roosevelt Dime. Most wrong planchet errors involve coins being struck on BLANK planchets meant for other denominations. However, this 2000 Lincoln Cent was struck over what was previously a normally-struck Roosevelt Dime. The Red Book notes that these types of errors are "of much greater value" that those struck on blank planchets. On the this coin, edge-reeding is present and the "sandwich" clad composition is plainly evident. The under-types of the Roosevelt Dime are clear on the obv and rev as well as the date. A very interesting coin! (Image)
