1811 (July 20) Entire letter from "Grand River, Isle de France" written by Captain Alistair Maclean of the 86th Regt, to his father at Lagan, Ulva, Isle of Mull, light oval "PORT LOUIS / POST PAID" and oval "SHIP / (crown) / LETTER" of London, charged 1/5. Maclean reports the illness of Col. MacQuarrie (later Governor of New South Wales). Maclean was wounded in July 1810 in the campaign to capture the island of Reunion.
