UNITED STATES: Banknote; Used to England; 3c green STRIP OF THREE , tied by WORCHESTER AUG 21 (1874) c.d.s., on reverse, Leeds 1 SP 74 c.d.s. receiver with a nice caricature on back, that looks to be a town crier pasted on colorful face. Very cute attractive front and back.

UNITED STATES: Banknote; 1939 1 green Prexy VERTICAL PAIR tied by red U.S.S. OKLAHOMA JUL 4 1939 c.d.s. on hand panted depiction of (we assume) of the coast of California. The Oklahoma was torpedoed 7 December 1941. 429 crew died, some survivors jumped off the ship into burning oil on water or crawled across mooring lines. An attempt was made to salvage her in 1947, but she sunk under tow back to California.

UNITED STATES: Banknote; 6c orange Air Post Stationery cancelled by S.S. NAVY SEP 2 1945 Tokyo Bay, (The day of the Japanese Surrender Ceremony), Hand-drawn illustration of the U.S.S. PASADENA in Tokyo Bay at anchor in front of Mt. Fujiamo. The artist, John J Keohane, appears to have been a crewman onboard the U.S.S. Pasadena for the ceremony, writing to his parents in Massachusetts. .


Pasadena was awarded five battle stars and decommissioned in 1950.

AUSTRALIA: 1937-46; 4d green on Hand-drawn illustrated and Painted AIRMAIL envelope, tied by BASE PO 7 M.D.? on air mail envelop hand stamped "Department of the Army Concessional Postage Rate. The ink sketch depicts probably Australian, ship at sea with the inscription "Homeward Bound - ?" probably at the end of the war. Very cute.

The card is titled "The Last Marching Order", in the grass at the bottom of the picture "W. Webster", and showing soldier marching to Dispersal Camp. (A Dispersal camp was for the men who wanted to remain in France). On the reverse, reads "Dear Ma, This card was painted by a pal in this battn", so it will be a souvenir. IRELAND: WW I , 1916 Hand drawn and Illustrated 1916 Military Cover, signed plus 2 other items . Sent to England from Field Post Office D. 32 15 JA 16 c.d.s and red Passed Censor mark with pen & ink drawing of a house. The artist signed the card in the lower right. Two additional, totally hand crafted, unmailed and unaddressed postcards accompanied. First, "Who Will Sing a Song of Spring" pictures cats made from pussy willows using perforated edges. The second uses old stamps to construct a shore scene on a postcard cutout with watercolor.

IRELAND: 1911 Edward 1d Handmade drawn color illustrated envelope depicting a motorcycle. (small crimp at top). The bike is probably a Clyno 5 HP V-twin with an Irish registration of RI 865. The card was posted in Dublin on 28 October 1911 and required 1d postage instead of the 1/2d postcard rate, likely due to the thickness of the paper.


Great for the motorcycle collector. Can be used in an exhibit or framed for the non-philatelist.

IRELAND: RANDLE-FORD WATERCOLOR WRAPPER: 1915 1d red and 1/2d green Wrapper. ""Meeting of the Waters of -Killarney", 23 November 1915. Posted from Kennington, Kent to R.N. Randle Ford in Ontario, Canada. This is one of approximately 97 wrappers known to have been painted by A.J. Randel Ford. A fascinating article by Dr John K. Courtis, FRPSL, appears in the April 17 issue of the Canadian Philatelic Society Maple Leaves Journal that illustrates this cover and tells a complete story of these wrappers, including a census.

IRELAND: Hand Illustrated three items 1d lilac to England , 1/2p green plus 1/2p postal card hand-drawn hand-drawn postcard , 1) 1d lilac tied on front by December 26, 1892, Dundrum c.d.s addressed to Ms Davidson in Wales depicting an attractive had drawn herald. 2) Second item was not posted, but is addressed to the same Ms. Davidson, bearing quite lovely sketch with hidden faces. 3) A Strabane cancel ties the 1/2 green to the 1/2 green postal card, addressed to Germany with a hand-drawn map likely indicating areas travelled, message on the reverse. Interesting and attractive group.
