1915 (Turkey maintained garrison troops in Yemen and on 2 July 1915, crossed the Aden border and advanced on Lahej, whose Sultan was loyal to the British. A military column was sent to his assistance. After a disastrous march, they reached Lahej but were unable to contest the Turkish advance and withdrew, leaving the unfortunate sultan behind to die in the ruins of his palace). In the absence of standard postal supplies, a negative seal was improvised as a franking postmark at Lahej during the occupation period. Cover (slightly defective and repaired) with triangular handstamp in violet struck on both sides, illustrated in the Coles & Walker and Passer's handbooks (Image)
