1849 1kr group of twelve production items, including four glass support clichés, one dated April 1945 and one tête-bêche pair, two clichés on celluloid coloured grey around the design, also three very fine impressions on paper; additionally, postmark trials on slips of paper, incl. numbers 20, 152, 313, 363, and datemarks of Bayreuth, Marktsteft, and Kaufbeuern. An impressive group of clichés and cds to produce the first stamp of Germany, only one single cliché is found in the “Ultimate” collection and the Musée de la Poste of Paris possesses only six clichés or matrices for all German states. 1849 1kr group of nine production items, including four glass support clichés, including one in bright red with production notations at base, and two matching clichés in black and grey, one cliché on celluloid, displaying varying notes relating to the filter used and one chosen as satisfactory result for making reproductions, also a celluloid cliché for a Munchen pm and one glass cliché with numeral cds 20, 152.313, 363. The final element is a complete finished reproduction of the stamp type A (of the three types produced) with forged cancel 220. An impressive group of clichés and cds to produce the 1kr, showing the process from clichés to finished reproduction, only one single cliché is found in the “Ultimate” collection and the Musée de la Poste of Paris possesses only six clichés or matrices for all German states. This lot comes with Sperati's own cardboard box for photographic celluloid of the ORTAS brand. (Image)

1849 1kr, a beautiful glass support cliché with a very sharp impression in light-grey of the tête-bêche, in type C of the three types that Sperati produced, an extremely attractive and tidy cliché that displays beautifully; Sperati produced tête-bêche pairs and strips, that were complete fabrications and had forged cancellations, a cliché on glass of the highest rarity, with nothing similar preserved in the “Ultimate” collection or the Musée de la Poste of Paris. 1849 1Kr black in double print block of 35 stamps from top of sheet showing the inverted cliche in position 10, the second printing from 8.5 to 11.5mm below the top stamp, this second double image also shows the inverted cliche. The block is in fresh condition with original mostly never hinged gum, a couple of adherences and some slight creases not affecting the invert. The largest known double print multiple, a great philatelic rarity, found originally by Pierre Mahé, Curator of the Phillippe Ferrary collection. There are three known tête-bêche pairs or blocks, none are double prints. A unique item in Bavarian and German Philately. Expertise: P Scheller Cert (2007) and R Calves Cert (2008) (Image)

1854 9kr green-blue horizontal strip of five (combination of type I and II), wide margins on all sides, on entire from Nürnberg to New Orleans, USA, tied to cover by numeral 243 and on the cover is clearly struck circular datestamp Nürnberg 27 Aug 1854, also red transit Aachen 29.8 and New York Paid, together with boxed accountancy PAID mark. On reverse is red semi-circular “Americ. Packet”, small surface paper abrasion to the left stamp not detracting, an impressive and attractive entire letter in original condition, with some paper splitting and internal reinforcement; signed Bühler and cert. 1862 (31 May) outer letter sheet to Constantinopoli franked with 1862 3Kr and three 6Kr cancelled 356 Muhlradstempel with Nurnberg date stamp in association, endorsed Via Wien at top, reverse with Wien transit 1/6 and arrival cds 6/6. An underfranked cover as mail via Vienna was charged at 23Kr (9 + 14), here the red manuscript "12" charge is an error. The right hand 6Kr with touched margin, others good to large, some hinge reinforcement to top fold. A very unusual underfranked cover to a rare destination at this date.
