British Offices in the Danish West Indies, 1812 St. Croix to Ireland. Folded letter rated "2/6" crossed out and rerated "3/1", with truly exceptional strike of the very rare "St. Croix, No. 27, 1812" fleuron date stamp, indistinct arrival postmark on reverse, Extremely Fine and choice.

WITHOUT QUESTION - ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES OF THIS RARE EARLY BRITISH ST. CROIX FLEURON DATE STAMP.

The British invaded the Danish West Indies in December 1807. A British fleet captured St. Thomas on December 22nd and St. Croix on December 25th. Denmark-Norway did not resist and this occupation lasted until November 20, 1815.
