CRETE - PRISONER OF WAR MAIL TO NEW ZEALAND WITH RARE CACHET: c.July 1941 env. (minor faults) addressed to Mrs J C Cleaver, Dargaville, New Zealand with on the reverse ms J C Cleaver, P.O.W. Camp Crete. On the front is a v.fine red Zensiert: Kriegsgefangenen Lager Kreta (VI) hs one of only two examples recorded to date. Thought to have gone via Italy, Spain, Portugal then USA and finally to New Zealand where the ms 14 Feb. 1942 on the reverse may have been the date of receipt. Rare cover.
