POSTAL HISTORY: Three better commercial covers comprising 1930s to "Ronorono/Beru" with undated 'GILBERT & ELLICE ISLANDS/P.O./ONOTOA/COLONY' cancel; 1944 to NZ with the scarce undated 'CUSTOMS OFFICER/.../BERU ISLAND' cancel, plain white label - unrecorded by Little - tied by boxed '.../PASSED BY CENSOR/ No. 5 ' L#H4-5a used at Tarawa; and 1945 to Egypt - unusual destination from the islands - with 6d & 2/- tied by superb Tarawa rubber cds, superb 'REGISTERED' h/s in violet with mss endorsement; two philatelic WWII covers with mss boxed "PASSED BY/CENSOR" & very late use of undated 'PO/NONOUTI/ISLAND' h/s in violet, and mss "PM/JDMSmyth [?]/Postm Tarawa/Dec 13 44" registered to GB (both stated by John Little to be "unique"); a couple of minor covers & some stamps in very mixed condition.
