1853-61 'EMPIRE FRANC' Napoleon III extraordinary collection of imperforate colour trials/plate proofs on gummed or ungummed paper, or card, with a veritable rainbow of colours & shades, some varieties including Printed on Both Sides and Double Prints, mostly singles but with a few blocks of 4 including 25c Double Print in Orange & 30c Double Print in Ultramarine and 1c on 'goldbeater's skin' (!) x7 different; also a few similar Ceres proofs & 1862 Laureates 4c blocks of 4 in red-brown, yellow-green or olive on tinted papers, finally 1876 Gaiffe Essays 1c in carmine, carmine-rose, vermilion & blue and 10c blocks of 4 in black & brown-red; with the exception of the goldbeater's skin proofs that exhibit some characteristic creasing & faults, the condition generally is very fine.
