Falkland Islands Dependencies: 1981 stock of covers from the 1980-81 expedition of the German research ship "Meteor". These are all on printed ship's envelopes, have two F.I.D. definitive stamps, and a variety of cachets. These from one of the ship's crew in 1981, and this is the remaining stock. An interesting aspect of these is that many of the covers have an alternative type of South Georgia postmark, which has caused some scepticism among specialists. There are 376 covers, of which 79 have the recognised cancel, and the 297 others the second type (all these also with Grytviken cachets). Also included are other covers from the expedition from B.A.T. (20), Argentina (5), and Chile (9), an interesting assembly for the specialist. (Image)
