ESTONIA: 1944 (Sep 3) stampless OAS cover between Estonian soldiers in the German SS, with very fine double-ring 'SARJA AG/EESTI' cds, stains on the reverse, with the enclosed 2pp letter written in Estonian. Very scarce because most such mail was destroyed by the recipients to avoid Soviet reprisals. The 20th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Estonian) was activated 24.1.1944. They saw action on the Eastern Front & surrendered to Russian forces in May 1945, the month after Berlin had fallen.

RUSSIA - POSTAL HISTORY: 1936 commercial registered cover to Germany with 10k & 20k x6 tied to the reverse by Cyrillic cds of Ufa, on the face Cyrillic R cachet of Ufa & Roman R cachet with mss "Oufa", two strikes of the rare boxed 'Recu au bureau de poste/a Moscou en etat endommage' h/s in French (= Received at the Post Office in Moscow in damaged condition), repaired at the top with plain white wafer tied by German 'Amtlich verschlossen/Zeuge [signature]' h/s (= Officially sealed/Witness...'), minor blemishes. Fascinating. [Ufa is the capital of Bashkortostan between the Volga River & the Ural Mountains] (Image1)
