A stunning quality mint pair with large margins and original gum. Most particularly benefiting from brilliant colour. Minor ink marks on reverse of right hand stamp do not affect lovely appearance.

The first stamp issues of Newfoundland, after becoming self-governing in 1855, are considered classics of the British Empire with the Royal Crown and Heraldic flowers of Great Britain paying homage to the British Crown.

Canada 1950 1c to 4c (both colours) Officials, range of 78 different (!) corner plate blocks of 4, comprising 1c x 14 (sets of 4 from plates 1, 2 and 5, plus upper left examples from plates 4 and 6), 2c sepia x 8 (sets of 4 from plates 1 and 2), 2c olive-green x 12 (sets of 4 from plates 3, 4 and 7), 3c purple x 22 (sets of 4 from plates 3, 4, 8 and 10, plus three each from plates 6 and 7), 4c carmine-lake x 14 (sets of 4 from plates 4, 8 and 9, plus lower left examples from plates 6 and 11), and 4c vermilion x 8 (sets of 4 from plates 17 and 18), SG178/83.

One of the 1c blocks is cancelled-to-order, and two of the 2c sepia blocks with original gum, otherwise all others are remarkably in unmounted mint condition with full original gum. The vast majority are condition grade "very fine to superb", and only the odd trivial blemish seen (bends, minor marks).

An amazing collection which would be almost impossible to assemble today, arranged on 4 stock cards.

On March 1, 1939, supplies of the 20c denomination special delivery stamps of 1938 were overprinted and revalued, due to the greater need for 10c denomination special delivery stamps. As such, the 20c stamps are much scarcer than the 10c denomination.

Newfoundland 1862-64 4d rose-lake, complete sheet of 20 (5x4), with "(ST)ACEY WISE/1858" large part papermaker's watermark covering six stamps in the two left hand columns, SG18.

A brilliant quality mint complete sheet with original gum ( all stamps are unmounted mint, except R2/1 with small adhesion). Unobtrusive vertical folds in side margins and between second and third columns, as usually seen with such sheets. A lovely item, with exceptional colour and impression.

Very scarce with watermark, which appears on only 2% of stamps from this issue according to Col. Robert H. Pratt, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the pre-eminent Newfoundland stamp and postal history collector, researcher, and author..
