Gardiner-Hall Gang Convict document for Alex Fordyce who participated in the 1862 Eugowra Gold Escort Robbery (Australia's largest ever gold robbery). Convicted to a death sentence, his sentence was commuted to life in prison, the first three years in irons. {Fordyce was sent to Berrima Gaol where he was released in 1874. Document with photograph, details of appearance, offence & sentence}. Plus four paintings of the Ben Hall Gang painted by Rose Rothery at Cliefden, NSW, where the Rothery family were held hostage there in 1863 (her ancestors). Rose Rothery painted Ben Hall, Johnny Dunn, John Vane & Johnny Gilbert, all wearing decent gentlemen's clothing. These are the only actual portraits known of the Gardiner-Hall Gang. {Attracted by the renown of William Rothery's horses, the gang raided Cliefden three times - 26 September 1863, 23 June 1864 & 29 November 1864}. Ex Allan Pease collection.
