Sullivan, Skilled Shipwt, H.M.S "Euryalus", Suez" and countersigned with a handstamped signature, a G.B 1d lilac paying the 1d sailor rate, cancelled upon arrival in the London Foreign Branch, Birmingham backstamp (Mar 20). Creases and part flap removed but an uncommon sailors letter from Egypt, sent shortly before the British occupation of the country.

Sudan. 1896 (Aug 5) Stampless cover to Scotland endorsed "Field Service, no stamps obtainable, Karin, Commanding 10th Sudanese" and signed "H.M Sidney", recipients filing endorsement "Koskeh, 5Aug", with "WADI-HALFA / CAMP" c.d.s (Aug 10) and boxed "T", single rate "2½d" charge mark applied in London. Arrival backstamps of Stratton and Maybole (Aug 27), redirected to London. Flap missing and minor edge faults, otherwise fine.

Sudan. 1896 (Dec 3) Stampless cover to England headed "Dongola Province, no stamps procurable" with a partial Wadi Halfa Camp c.d.s and boxed "T", single rate "2½d" charge mark applied in London, backstamped at Cairo and in England (Dec 16), small tear at upper edge, otherwise fine.

Sudan. 1898 (Aug 6) Sudan 5m postal stationery envelope used to pay the soldiers concession rate to England, headed "From No. 3096 Pte W. Hall, G. Coy Roy. War. Regt. Nyasaland. 1897 (Jan 8) 4d Registration envelope size F sent to India at the 1d soldiers concession rate, endorsed "sender no 256 LC Naick Asa Singh, Armed Forces in BCA" and countersigned by the Commanding Officer (Capt. W.H Manning, for the Lt. Col.), the 1d stamp cancelled "863" with a Zomba c.d.s alongside, backstamped at Chinde, Sea Post Office and Simla, with oval handstamp applied on the Bombay-Aden Sea Post Office containing the manuscript registration number. Boer Occupation of Natal. 1900 (Jan 24) Cover to Holland franked Transvaal 2d + 3d each cancelled violet oval "ELANDSLAAGTE" datestamp, arrival backstamp (Mar 9), unusual on a commercial cover to Holland.

Boer Occupation of the Cape. 1899 (Oct 21) Cover to Miss Leask in Wolmaransstad with Cape ½d + 1d (2) each tied by Vryburg c.d.s, arrival backstamp (Oct 30). Posted three days after the Boer forces had occupied Vryburg. Other Leask covers bore Transvaal stamps, with surcharged stamps issued in the town in November.

1900 (May 8) Stampless "In Dienst, O.V.S" envelope from Kroonstad to Harrismith, with violet "O.V.S HOOFD-COMMISSARIAAT" containing the O.V.S arms, horizontal fold and minor edge faults, otherwise fine and scarce. Kroonstad became the temporary capital of the O.F.S in March 1900, until occupied by the British on May 12th.

1900 (Mar 27) Cover from Durban to England headed "From no 1076 Pte G. Goodhall, 1st York + Lanc Regiment, South African Field Force", with red "RECOVERED FROM / WRECK OF MEXICAN", a little edge wear.

1900 (May 15) Cover from the P.O.W Camp at Waterval, franked 1893 2½d on 1/-, violet boxed "BRIEVEN CENSUUR / Waterval Krijgsgevangenis", to England with backstamps of Lourenco Marques and Kings Lynn, the enclosed letter from Pte G. Pears stating Corp. Jackson is not held in the camp. The addressee Dr Plowright was a philatelist who collected P.O.W mail and censor marks during the war; the cover was probably sent by him prestamped, with a letter to or enquiry about a non-existent prisoner, in order to get a reply with the censor mark of Waterval.
