NGL Line Steamship "Rhein". Envelope also posted March 27th 1875 addressed to Luzern, Switzerland. Prepaid the Closed Mail via England rate of 10 cents with 1873, 2¢ brown, two singles + 3¢ green, pair. Stamps cancelled by the Weiss type GE-EN2/G1 obliterator. At the New York Foreign Mail office the "NEW YORK PAID ALL VIA ENG. & OSTD. / MAR / 27" was applied. The closed bag was routed to Basel arriving April 8th for sorting and delivered at Luzern on the same day; cover with sealed cover tear at bottom right and light tone spots, F.-V.F.; with 2003 P.F. certificate. NGL Line Steamship "Rhein". Envelope posted at New York March 27th 1875 addressed to London arriving there April 6th. Prepaid the 6 cent treaty rate to Britain of January 1870 using 1873, 3¢ green, horizontal pair cancelled by the New York Foreign Mail obliterator Weiss type GE-EN2/G1. The canceller Weiss type GE-EN2/G1 is recorded by him as in use March 30th - 3rd May 1875. These covers, 2 of 18 recorded with this stamp, extends usage back by 3 days. Atlantic Transit 10 days; light central wax seal stain, Very Fine. Scott No. 158  Estimate $400 - 600. $0 (Image)
