Embossed red cameo design on cover franked with 1851 3Ā¢ dull red with pen cancels, postmarked red "Goodyears Bar, Cal, Feb 6" cds addressed to Sacramento, minor deterioration at upper left & slightly reduced at right, F.-V.F., thought to be the only known example. The grizzly bear is the official California state animal and is featured on the California State Flag, which was adopted in 1911. The grizzly bear first appeared on the banner raised over Sonoma during the Bear Flag Revolt against Mexican rule in June of 1846.
