Sardinia, Collection, 1855-63. Immense study of nearly 2,000 stamps and many covers of the fourth issue of the embossed vignettes of King Victor Emmanuel, Scott #'s 10-15, in use from 1855-1863, and which represents a 40 year effort to form the most comprehensive study of these issues available; there are literally hundreds of shades, all carefully annotated and mounted on quadrille pages and in a large stockbook; they are thought to be the most difficult to classify in all of classic philately; the cancellation dates, papers, impressions, gum and embossing all play a part in the proper classification; the collection includes pairs and other multiples, as well as reprints and remainders (not counted, but some in full sheets); forgeries are not included; as many of the shades are extremely scarce, the Scott catalog value is enormous; definitely needs a careful evaluation to determine true value. Estimate $10,000 - 15,000. $0 (Image)
