CAPE OF GOOD HOPE: 1883 to USA with Britannia ½d grey, 2d brown & 6d violet pair tied by two strikes of barred numeral '13' with 'STELLENBOSCH/AP3/83/CAPE COLONY' cds alongside rated "2"(d), rated "5"(c) in red crayon on face for incoming British Packet ship letter, 'NEW YORK/MAY/4/PAID/D/ALL' opera-glass transit and 'BRADFORD/ MASS' arrival b/s, minor closed tears & edge faults but still very attractive.
CAPE OF GOOD HOPE: 900 (June) internal English cover to Market Harboro but missent to South Africa where 1d lilac tied by GPO Cape Town & part-British FPO cds, endorsed on the flap "Found in a bag of newspapers addressed/to Imperial Yeomanry South Africa/[signature]/for Controller CB" with largely very fine strike of the rare double-oval 'CONTROLLER'S OFFICE, CIRCULATION BRANCH/13JUN1900/GPO CAPE TOWN' datestamp in violet alongside, returned to England with very fine 'MARKET-HARBOROUGH' arrival b/s, minor blemishes.
