Brownells was Hobart's leading department store.

One of the finest examples we have seen. Illustrated on page 79.
EQUITABLE LIFE ASSURANCE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES: 1d rose with pre-printed address with largely-printed pro forma notice within SO5.20 (rated RR; unrecorded used), unused. Superb.
MILLER, R & CO: Embossed 1d rosine for R Miller & Co Soap & Candle Manufacturers SO5.3 (rated RR) with illustration of a washer-woman and clothesline on the face and inside a printed notice of their representative's visit with advertising for Miller's Magic Soap below, to New Norfolk with Hobart duplex cancel and light arrival backstamp, a couple of very minor aging marks. Illustrated on page 75. Only the second example we have offered in 20 years: the other sold at our auction of 15.5.2004 for $1230.
'TRUE SHOT' POSTAL WRAPPER: 1d red/white SO5.42 (rated R) with all segments except the address & back panels occupied by 42 different boxed advertisements for an array of products including Cascade Beer, Nicholls Malt Ales, Liberty Sharebrokers, Lion Tea, 5 O'Clock Tea, Criterion Hotel, Chemist, Goldsmiths, Photographers, Clothing, Fruit and Wool Brokers etc, some light peripheral soiling & small piece of the flap missing, very minor reinforcement with archival tape otherwise remarkably fine for these large (420x300mm opened-out) and impressive issues, unused.

'TRUE SHOT' POSTAL WRAPPER: 1d pale red/white SO5.42 (rated R) with all segments except the address & back panels occupied by 42 different boxed advertisements for an array of products including Cascade Beer, Nicholls Malt Ales, Liberty Sharebrokers, Lion Tea, 5 O'Clock Tea, Criterion Hotel, Chemist, Goldsmiths, Photographers, Clothing, Fruit and Wool Brokers etc, some very minor reinforcement with archival tape otherwise remarkably fine for these large (420x300mm opened-out) and impressive issues, unused. About as fine as they come. Exceptional thematic content. The previous item, this and the next four lots are the first examples we have offered for many years. An example on pink paper, with some soiling & the flap re-attached, sold at our auction of 29.11.2008 for $610.
Note that all these lettersheets have exactly the same advertising content. This suggests they were from the one printing, but on various coloured stocks.

The retention rate of such large items must have been miniscule: this is stated to be the only recorded used example.

A remarkably late usage, still with the same advertisements as in 1891.
