1865 entire 7 June Woodside (Wairarapa) to Nelson ex Samuel Revans to brother at BNZ, Nelson with unframed Wellington/JU 9/1865 cancel on rear, fine framed "TOO LATE" h/s & Nelson JN 15/65 arrival cancel, both on front. Stamp previously removed. Revans (sender) was the father of NZ journalism (in the early 1840s) & politician. With photocopy of informative biographical sketch.

1899 1½d Lettercard + 1d 25F ex Invercargill 3 July, used to Germany, Erfurt 12 August arrival cds.

1900 GB 2d QV reg'd envelope, with 2x GB 1d QV added adhesives, each canc fine "ARMY P.O. S. AFRICA" cds NO 17 00. Addressed locally, during the Boer War, to Sgt J Henderson of the NZ Mounted Infantry, Race Course, Pretoria. Good average cond.

1909-1976 seln of OHMS/meter franked/permit paid etc covers (22v) including 3 ex High Commission for NZ (UK) & 2 diff 3d on 2d uprated covers, some mixed cond.

1911 "T.P.O. MAIN TRUNK AK" 25mm cds, two fine strikes 18 OC 11. OUT on 1d Dominion & ½d EVII on PPC to Wellington. A few light tone spots. Scarce.

1915 WWI 1d GV postal stationery envelope (fine) with added ½d EVII & 1d Dominion adhesives, canc Wellington machine d/s 25 JA 15, to Sweden (no receipt b/s). With NZ censor resealing strip tied by fine "OPENED BY THE MILITARY CENSOR N.Z." h/s (violet). Flap missing. Postal censorship was imposed on all mail to neutral countries as from 1 JA 1915. Fine example.

1915 WWI cover ex Norway (posted 28.VI.15) to NZ (readdressed), inspected by censor on arrival. With plain censor resealing strip tied by fine "PASSED BY THE MILITARY CENSOR N.Z." h/s (violet). With receipt cds of Wellington, Courtenay Place & Greytown, 14-16 SP 15. Edge wear. Unrelated pencil m/s over back. Postal censorship was imposed on all mail from neutral countries as from 1 JA 15.

1917 WWI 1d GV postal stationery envelope (fine), canc light Patumahoe A-type cds 23 SP 17, with good/fine "PASSED BY THE MILITARY CENSOR N.Z." h/s (violet). Addressed simply "P.Notley 22526 (Prisoner of War) Kriegs Gefangenen Zundung (this should read "Sending"), Germany". No other markings. Only 356 NZ troops became POWs in WWI. The only mail transmitted from NZ to Germany during the war was mail to POWs, so examples of this use are very scarce. Very good cond.

1918 WWI machine pmk "Food wins the war, save it/Waste of food means defeat", good strike 24 AP 1918 (though most of top line has not struck) on printed advert cover (long, with central vert sole), franked 1d Dominion. Scarce war-time patriotic cancel.

1919 post WWI cover to USA with ½d GV & 1d Dominion, canc Invercargill machine d/ s17 MR 19, with also fine large circular h/s "P.C. / N.Z." (= Passed by Censor), unusually in blue. Used only late in the war (or shortly after), mostly on mail to USA (items not opened). Very fine.

1919 post-WWI machine pmk "Give preference to the men who have fought for you. Ring Repatriation Dept.". Fine strike Auckland 10 NO 1919 on fine cover to USA franked GV 1½d. Scarce.
