1917 WWI 1d GV postal stationery envelope (fine), canc light Patumahoe A-type cds 23 SP 17, with good/fine "PASSED BY THE MILITARY CENSOR N.Z." h/s (violet). Addressed simply "P.Notley 22526 (Prisoner of War) Kriegs Gefangenen Zundung (this should read "Sending"), Germany". No other markings. Only 356 NZ troops became POWs in WWI. The only mail transmitted from NZ to Germany during the war was mail to POWs, so examples of this use are very scarce. Very good cond.
