PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND C.D.S ON COVER TO G.B. EXCEPTIONALLY WITH LONDON "PACKET LETTER"; Fine 1 Aug. 1818 E from Charlottetown to London endorsed “P[repai]d to Halifax 8[d]” in red with a very fine “PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND/Aug:1/1818” 1st-Type Charlottetown cds with a fair “HALIFAX” transit cds (20 Aug). It was carried on the British Packet ship ‘Queensbury’ (ex NY) to Falmouth and charged “2/4”, (1s-3d Packet rate + 11d inland to London, apparently plus 2d for local London delivery). Most exceptionally (the only example recorded on a cover from P.E.I.?) it also has the boxed London “PACKET LETTER” mark on the front (there was no Falmouth “CANADA/F” mark). Exhibition Quality.
