THE JOE D. HOUGH FDC COLLECTION OF VIRGINIA DARE, incredible collection of nearly 250 mostly different covers, mounted in (3) three ring binders, in order by Planty numbers, the collection is nearly complete missing perhaps 20-25 Planty varieties, in many cases there is a FDC and a 2nd day cover with the same cachet, there are also many "Dare, Va." CDS's to go with the usual "Manteo, N.C." cancel, there are about a dozen "colored in" covers and a couple dozen handpainted covers present, there are 13 different "Postmaster General" cachets which Planty catalogs at $100 each (only six possible sets of this special printing), there are some unlisted cachets included, another key here is the overall quality which is simply outstanding for this area, there are dozens of covers here which would retail over $100 and a few more dozen which retail in the $50-100 range, this collection certainly must be the finest group of Dare FDC's ever put together, simply an amazing opportunity for the specialist in this area, in addition to the collection there are about a dozen folders packed with correspondence relating to the efforst of Mr. Hough, we have included many scans on the website of the better covers, (ENV 3,000-4,000) (Image)
