Lundy - The development of postal services on the pirate island in the Bristol Channel. 1929/1961. Classic country collection, beginning after the closure of the Royal Mail post office, which operated on the island from 1887 to 1927. The collection shows all stamps between 1929 and 1961 of the local private mail, which connected Lundy with the mainland (and with the Royal Mail). Many of the stamps are shown not only mint, but also on (commercial) used covers. From the beginning years there is an extremely rare foreign letter, which is franked exclusively with Lundy stamps, but most covers show mixed frankings between Lundy and Royal Mail resp. forreign stamps on incoming mail. Several covers of the years 1935 to 1939 show in addition airmail stamps of the Lundy & Atlantic Coasts Air Service, a private airmail company, which carried out regular flights to Lundy.
