Lot No:742

1854, "Paid at Jacmel" and "Yndias" handstamps, March 11 folded cover from Jacmel to Santiago de Cuba, directly consigned to the British P.O. with very fine "Paid/At/Jacmel” crowned circle in red, backstamped with corresponding double-arc datestamp, rated in manuscript with one shilling maritime fee to St. Thomas (datestamp on reverse), transit markings of Havana on front including “3” reales due and “Yndias” straight line (P.E. 15), both in blue, and Santiago arrival c.d.s. on back; a unique usage of this crowned circle in conjunction with this Spanish postmark; in addition, the “Yndias” handstamp was very scarcely applied at Santiago, a fascinating and highly appealing showpiece; ex-Sitja.
