1849 1fr dull orange red (vermilion) on yellowish paper, unused with original gum, l.h., full to mostly large margins on all four sides, nice color and bright shade, v.f. example of the rarest stamp of the First Issue of France (the 1849 1 Franc stamp comes in two basic shades, Vermilion (Scott No. 8) and Carmine (No. 9), with each having several sub-shades. This Dull Orange Red shade is from the Vermilion group, which is far rarer than the Carmine. In fact, this is one of the key rarities for someone trying to collect France in unused condition). A beautiful stamp, signed Roger Calves, Lemarre, and others, also Brun, with his 2018 certificate (YT 7, Euro 125,000) cat. $92500 (Cat No. 8) (Image)
