WILSON/..../BIN EE TAFT, CALIFORNIA, Registry ccls on stamps and from markings on reverse date was "APR/10/1930" (two ccls for the initial TAFT Registry office). On reverse are (2) dc Abilene marks "ABILENE TEX/APR/14/1930/REGISTERED. On front is a hand stamp with date APR 22 1930/SECOND NOTICE NO REPLY/TO FIRST NOTICE MAILED..." Reverse has (2) marks dc "ABILENE, TEX/APR/25/1930/REGISTERED" and there is a large "POINTING FINGER" handstamp w/"RETURNED TO WRITER/UNCLAIMED/FROM/ABILENE, TEXAS/P.O." pointing to c/c. And the last (7th) mark on reverse is dc "TAFT, CALIF./APR/28/1930/indistinct but presumably "REGISTERED". Fascinating cover, also, has handstamp "REGISTERED/7691" on front & writer typed inscription "RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED" at LL (Image)

720, 3¢ Purple on "Floating Post Office" event cover, F-VF, neat script addr in ink, tied to cvr w/duplex cds pmk "DETROIT, MICH/JUN30/1230PM/DET. RIVER STA/1936". Text cachet "LAST DAY IN COMMISSION/F.G. BECKER/AS WORLD'S ONLY FLOATING/POST OFFICE/JUNE 30, 1936", which is in error - the vessels name was G.F. BECKER that was Detroit's "Mail Boat". Also, this was the end of the Becker's 1st commission. Hand stamp on back "GLENN PLATT/4074 SEYBURN AVE./DETROIT,MICH/U.S.C.S. 653" and "2800" written on flap. Vessel serves the postal needs of the Great Lakes freighters, interesting item! (Image)
