SELBY MALTESE CROSS CANCELLATION: 27 May 1841 EL to London (toned & creased) bearing a cut into 1841 1d plate 9 QI with a good strike of the rare Settle MX. [Ex Coldrey]. SG £1,500. Note:Rockoff & Jackson conclude that Settle only had one MX handstamp and that it was not distinctive beyond sporadic "breaks" in some impressions, nevertheless a rare MX. (Image)
