3037 image1886 2sh6d, 10sh Provisional Surcharges, non-denominated colonial keyplate issues in mauve with blank value tablets and overprinted "TASMANIA / POSTAGE & REVENUE" and "TWO SHILLINGS AND SIXPENCE" or "10 SHILLINGS" in black, each with a light corner favor cancel, fresh and Fine; late in 1885 the Tasmania government ordered from De La Rue new 2/6 and 10/- stamps to replace the St George & Dragon high values then being used for postal purposes, due to length of time for correspondence discussing the details of the order between Hobart and London, the Crown Agents ordered a provisional issue by overprinting the general keyplate issue - 205 sheets for the 2/6 and 200 sheets for the 10/-, in the end, the order for the new stamps from De La Rue was cancelled due to higher than anticipated cost and the provisional surcharges were never placed on sale. The Victorian Naval Forces comprised the permanent force known as the Victorian Navy, and a 300-strong Victorian Naval Brigade consisting of the Williamstown Division and the Sandridge (Port Melbourne) Division. The combination of the Victorian Navy and the Victorian Naval Brigade were known collectively as the Victorian Naval Forces.
