3008 image1850 Folded Letter Glasgow to Philadelphia, 1841 1d, 2d singles tied by black rectangle of bars cancels, accompanying Glasgow PAID NO 15 1850 double circle and "GLASGOW" chief post office thimble postmark, ms. "Per Europa", nice strike of red "BR. PACKET BOSTON 29 NOV PAID" transit cancel, assorted ratings marks incl red "24 Cents", red "5 Cents "red ink ms. "12" which basically boils down to the letter being fully prepaid on dispatch (24c) with 5c due to the US, 3c due to British PO, 16c to shipping company (Cunard) - the "12" being the sum collected from the addressee (2c landing fee, 10c delivery for greater than 300 miles from port of arrival), backstamped with a small Glasgow transit postmark, stamps 3-4 margins, a Fine use (Image1) 300-400

3014 imageWell Traveled 1879 Cover to Afghanistan, franked with six 1864 1d pl 207 tied by Oswestry OC 30 79 "595" duplex cancels, addressed to "Lieut. H Martin Sandbach/ 1st Battery, 5th Brigade/ Bengal", ms. "Via Brindisi" from whence it went through the Suez Canal to Calcutta and arriving in Sitapur 24 Nov, the cover then began a long journey as it was redirected to Benares, then to "1st Brigade, 2nd Division" at "Camp Pezwan, Kabul" and forwarded again through the Jelalabad Post Office to Gundamak, multitude of backstamps, some expected postal wear from the long jouney and couple of the stamps with edge faults due to placement, a Fine and interesting cover showing proper 6d per -+oz rate to India; the Treaty of Gundamak was signed 26 May 1879 ending the Second Anglo-Afghan War. 3019 imageExhibit Collection of British Forces in Ireland 1920-22, 19 covers, 1 front and and one large piece showing examples of all the military postmarks used on mail sent to, from and within Ireland during the period of the build-up of troops to suppress IRA activities, some of the covers are shown above and all are imaged on the website, includes numerous markings listed as "not known", "not seen" or "possibly not used" by the primary sources on British military mails of this perion (Proud; Kennedy & Crabb) incl FPO 5 (two examples, different types), 6 and 7 with others being one of just a handful recorded (e.g. 9), also includes a "forerunner" cover from member of 10th Lincolnshire Regt with Killenaule/ Thurles 8 NO 20 cds (post WW I fieldpost offices in Ireland not opened until Dec 1920), includes two covers seized by the IRA and subsequently recovered with nice auxiliary markings/ official seal, F-VF, outstanding collection for the specialist (see online scans) (Image1) 2,500-3,500
