FRENCH COLONIES
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
4893 og/nhP   imageFRENCH COLONIES AND INDEPENDENT TERRITORIES SPECIALTY ITEMS HOARD.An exciting group of mainly printers archive material housed in two substantial volumes crammed with hundreds of items, including many hundreds of stamps in interpanneau sheets and other multiples, as well as lots of epreuves de luxe, se-tenant blocks and other unusual material, especially the imperforate sheets including scarce composite color trials. It is a sign of the quality of this holding that the best Epreuves are in the form of monochrome die proofs sunk on thick card and are all signed. Much of the material is organized to show the evolution of an issue, for example with Benin the 1982 UPU 100fr appears in composite strip of 5 color trials with date imprint and other printer&rsquo,s markings, plus signed die proof of the same 100fr in brownish black, followed by imperf block of four and FDC in the issued colors. Similarly Congo 1981 ONPT 90fr inc. annotated progressive color trials se-tenants, signed die proof in green, plus dated imperf block of 10 and various epreuves in the issued colors. This pattern is found virtually throughout the collection, with other highlights including French Polynesia 1975 100fr airpost with signed sunken die proofs in two colors, as well as a trial strip of 5 plus perf and imperf mint never hinged singles and blocks of four and again used on FDC. Another interesting country is Mali with for example 1981 Concorde with 400fr full sheet of progressive color trials annotated in pencil along with complete sheets of 10 perf and imperf in the issued colors, as well as signed monochrome Epreuves of the five issues of the 1961 stamp on stamp series along with their counterpart Epreuves this time in issued colors, followed by the 15 complete sheets on each issue, including the annotated progressive trials, then imperf and perf in the issued colors! Other countries include Senegal 1963 series with the 10fr color trial strip, 3 signed 10fr monochrome Epreuves and the full series in imperf blocks of four and regular Epreuves de luxe, Niger 1972 commems including the full series yet again in annotated color trial strips and 6 signed sunken die proofs with two different colors on each denomination, etc, Djibouti, etc. There are also even a few scarce issues for Thailand, Dominican Republic and Saudi Arabia, all of course back of the book that this collector liked. Hardly any of this material is listed in Scott. Since a good number of these would easily sell for hundreds of dollars each on EBay, this is an excellent opportunity to buy seldom seen material, much of which has very low printing numbers and very likely some unique items present. 4894 og,O   INTRIGUING FRENCH COLONIES HOLDING.2 stockbooks, the first one is stamp on stamp, the second one is stamp for each stamp individually displayed making a much easier viewing. Nevertheless in our opinion the former is as interesting and probably more valuable, although very much work intensive. For example, it has  ,100s of mint never hinged series, all one of a kind from countries such as Gabon, French Guinea, Tchad, French Polynesia a very interesting section including for example the good airmails #C24-C27 x 2 (Scott retail cat $170), the telstar, the scarce skin diver with spear gun (#C37 $90) and many more of the 1960s with further Scott retail no doubt running into many hundreds of dollars, without considering the regular numbers as well such as better series #199 &ndash, #202, #203 &ndash, #204, #211 &ndash, #215, #217 - #222, #223 - #226 etc. Further countries continue with F.A.T., French Congo, Ivory Coast again very good with extensive airmails etc etc. Also in the same book good classics, with for example New Caledonia, the imperfs including inverted surcharge, the N.C.E. o/ps #8 and #9 through #12 and then the scroll o/p types #35 - #39, with the latter 2 superb used, followed by peace and commerce with various values to 1fr , mint, as well as a diverse range of the numeral in circle surcharges through to the Jubilee o/p issues of 1903.  ,Also seen Reunion from the imperf onwards Ceres heads and peace and commerce types with various errors such as missing letters, broken letters, misplaced surcharges and the like, definitely worth spending time on. Also present the various airmail surcharges again well worth investigating with values to 1000fr o/ps in the new currency etc. , The second volume is much neater and is represented by a mint collection of hundreds of mainly 20th century sets with many better, including good representations particularly from  ,French influences and colonies in North Africa and the Middle East with for example Algeria #B1 &ndash, B13, B14-B26, French , Morocco #124-127, #C1-C11, #CB1-CB20, Alaouites #C17-C19, Tunisia #Q11-Q25, Latakia #C1-C11, Libya #1N1-2N11, Lebanon #45-48, #206-209, #C5-C8, #C21-C22, #C36, #C39-C48, #C82-C128, #CB1-CB9, Syria #133-136, #C67-C87, #C109-C134, as well as places such as St Pierre #128-131, #C10-C18, Martinique #C10-C12, etc etc. This outline description is just that, so much more here than described and must be calculated carefully, unhurriedly. A most enjoyable holding to study with much hidden value. , Dealers ,of this area, make sure this is on your list of lots to view.

GERMAN STATES
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
4903 og,O   imageGERMAN STATES WITH STRONG BAVARIA COLLECTION.An original crusty-dusty old time accumulation of many 1000s of classic imperforates from the first issues onwards with particular interest in the postmarks. Housed in 1 box, stuffed to capacity, it is somewhat chaotically presented in old envelopes as well as opaque glassines,  ,there are lots of overflowing large stockcards, as well as album pages. It is completely unprocessed and original, save remarks made by the collector at the time with broad categorizations of superb, extra superb, etc. The stamps are both the numeral and the coat of arms issues. We noted a reasonable range of different denominations present, however it is primarily the postmark interest that motivated this collector to accumulate in both the imperforate numeral and the shield issues. This old time holding deserves an expert to organize and research carefully what is here. We have no doubt there will be many scarce postmarks, it is so extensive. This is absolutely for the specialist with the time and knowledge, as once it is written-up on album pages, it will be worth multiples of our valuation range. If you are a specialist collector or dealer looking for an original ,19th century postmark holding, look no further, this is it. ,Prepare to spend hours going through this, you will not be disappointed. , (Image1) 7,500-10,000

Also much Thurn and Taxis including the 1859 30kr orange used, etc, through to extensive Wurttemberg with often the mint never hinged etc etc. An exciting collection for the specialist with the distinct probability of further finds, especially among the challenging imperforate earlier issues. GERMANY AND GERMAN AREA
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
4908 og,O   GERMAN AREA INCL PRE-WW II BALTICS REGION COLLECTION.An immense holding of material from German Empire up to and including Eurozone, a substantial estate including over 60 volumes with a good number of well filled albums, representing a collector was also was a wannabe dealer. There are parallel collections with stocks, with an eye for quality virtually throughout. The collections themselves are probably the best, often accompanied by signatures on the better issues including the late 1940s early 1950s, similarly there is comprehensive DDR with Debria m/s on cover, etc. Berlin is also excellent, again with quality, i.e. virtually everything never hinged, as well as parallel superb used. Also good WW2 occupations including Lithuania, Memel. Baltic states during the pre WW2 years are also well represented, again in collection and stock format. We have only taken an average figure of $150 per volume, clearly there are many worth several hundreds of dollars each and very few worth under $100 a book.
