Vintage collection of the swans issues from the imperfs to 1890, with over 50 different, on old-time specialized album pages. Highlights are the 1850s with 4d pale blue (SG#2) mint with full original gum and very scarce as such, then 6d black bronze used (#18) with margins touching design on two sides nevertheless, clearly a highly collectible example, followed by the 1855 1/- gray brown mint again with full original gum (#4b) and the pale brown shade used (#4c). Other better early swans present include the 1d black rouletted (#2) used with roulette cut down, 6d sage green imperf and roulette types used (#28, 32), 1861 perf 14-16 types to 1/- green, leading on to the later swans 1864 through to the 1880s with many shade varieties, the surcharges inc. 1885 1d on 3d mint (#91), etc, etc. Occasional small faults as to be expected, definitely worth checking for varieties that have come to light, not appreciated or known at the time when the collection went was assembled. A remarkable lot with distinct potential, please inspect carefully. ,(photo) (Image 1)
Old-time collection of more several dozen mostly used stamps from 1853 to 1890, housed on vintage specialized album pages, including 4d Van Diemen's Land imperfs with early state printing in bright red orange shade with wide margins all round (SG#5), as well as another from the second state of the plate in orange shade, margins touching on two sides (#8), then the Chalon head issues including the first 1d carmine (#14) with four margins, corner crease not affecting the excellent appearance (please note the partial offset from printing causes the appearance of a thin yet the stamp is sound). Also with star watermark the 4d deep blue (#17) followed by 1857 unwatermarked 4d blue superb used showing part of adjoining stamp at bottom (#22), 1857/69 imperf Chalons to 1/-, the early private perf issues 1863/71 inc. 2d yellow green pen canceled (#60), better post office contract issues inc. 2d green (#71), leading on to 1870 series inc. 4d blue with faint pen cancel, 1871s to 5/- inc. perf 11 1/2 4d ocher and 4d buff both mint (#147a/b), etc, etc. Though there are occasional small faults as to be expected, the quality is generally far better than normally encountered in a collection formed many decades ago, well worth checking for varieties that have since been listed, not appreciated at the time.

An important holding of sheets and part sheets housed in two folders, with over 3000 mint never hinged stamps of the 1930s and 1940s, with excellent quality and vibrant colors throughout. We note 1932 pictorials inc. full sheets of 100 on the 8cts brownish red (SG#227), 10cts black brown (#215), 25cts slate (#219), as well as the 1938 48cts red brown top value with blocks of 4, 6 and 50. Then the 1941/44 series inc. 3cts carmine sheets, perf 12 1/2, one showing the damaged "A" variety (#278b), the other sheet in entirely different shade and without damaged "A", the 5cts violet caribou with corner blocks of 4 and 16 with different perforation and in paler shade than the block of 80 as well as 7cts Queen Mary with blocks of 40 and 50, also in distinct shades, etc, etc. This is an original archival store assembled as new issues, all in pristine never hinged condition hardly ever exposed to light, with the distinct probability of many discoveries to be made, including watermark errors, as well as constant and partial sheet varieties, including those listed and those as yet still unlisted in Gibbons. Please leave time for a thorough inspection, you will not be disappointed.
