Used during the quarantine of 20 Aug to 23 Oct 1895, where all mail leaving the islands was fumigated by the Honolulu post office. Also disinfected at Angel Island in San Francisco Bay. Clipping corner of cards would be pointless, as the entire card would be exposed to the disinfecting fumes. Rare postal card used during this cholera epidemic. Sent to the small town of Spreckelsville, which consisted of a large sugar plantation. This cover has its corners clipped off and was fumigated at the Kahului post office by burning sulphur. The island of Maui had 10 deaths during the epidemic, seven reported at Kahului and three at Wailuku, a nearby town. All mail from Honolulu was fumigated, and at least one corner was clipped off each envelope before undergoing a sulphur treatment. This fantastic, Remington Hammerless Double Barrel Gun advertising cover of H.O. Hall & Son is short ,1/2 inch on the left side. 5101 c   image82, Kealia Kauai,Mar 18 ,1900 ,Purple postmark (MH 282.011) ,ties 5c stamp to ,envelope, ,addressed Oroville ,CA, Fumigated at Honolulu with clipped corners to allow sulphur fumes to penetrate and destroy any bubonic plague virus. Departing Honolulu on 27 March, the mail steamer S/S Mariposa landed this letter in San Francisco, about a week later, and probably fumigated a second time. Inside the envelope a four-page letter written by a teacher who writes "the quarantine system is a farce and money making scheme by the Board of Health, e.g. hush money being paid to escape fumigation", she also stated "all our papers and letters smell of fumigation", Very scarce and Very Fine. ,ex-Honolulu Advertiser collection. , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , (Image 1) 600-900
