Mostly late 19th / early 20th century with plenty of Europea subjects, and representing one of the best collections of its type that we have had the pleasure to offer, representing about 2000 different examples, often in complete long series, housed in a somewhat battered substantial album full of character, formed 80+ years ago. The strength is in the Germany followed by Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Great Britain, Netherlands, even european colonies seen etc. There are many attractive printings here including embossings, line engraved, surface printed, lithograph, etc, nearly everything is multi-colored with a wide variety  ,of themes including militaria, patriotic, Expositions, propaganda, iconography, scouts, Esperanto, aviation including Zeppelins and magnificent flying machines, etc. In today&rsquo,s market, collections like this are very difficult to find as most have been split up. Please note that much of this has been collected the old fashioned way, i.e. heavy hinging as was standard in those days, some will pop-up and some will need time and some will be without gum. However the designs and themes are in such uniformly strong colors, hardly ever exposed to light, making this a much recommended lot. It is ideal material to market 'stamp for stamp', page for page on Ebay where they should sell like hot cakes &ndash, unless you decide to make this your own. Please see photoplates  ,of this impressive collection. (Photo) (Image)
17 volumes representing a very diverse worldwide reference collection with 1000s of stamps, housed on quadrille pages and stockpages with extensive write-up, detailing the types of forgery/reprint etc, occasionally next to genuine examples for comparison, often highly informative with articles, letters from experts and opinions. South and Central Americas are strong with a volume for Chile with detail on the Valparaiso locals, first issues inc. genuine, inverted 'correos' surcharges, 5cts surcharge errors on 30cts Colon, anchor 'oficial' o/ps, etc, another excellent book is for Venezuela including a good study of the 1880s Bolivars and then page after page loaded with Guayana steamboat locals small and large, showing the different types together, fancy cancels, etc. with many genuine. Nicaragua also with a dedicated volume from Seebecks through to great detail on 1931 Managua and 1932 airposts. Also Dominican Republic classics, genuine Honduras first issues with o/ps made by the postmaster general, Panama imperfs and handstamp overprints, Mexico with lots of Hidalgos inc. dangerous forgeries on the various 8r issues, Maximilians, through to Civil War, etc. Other good areas are the Persia with a very interesting volume stuffed with 19th and early 20th century issues awaiting verification, other books with Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Japan with 19th century birds through to first airmail overprints, China, Russia, Italian States, German States especially Lubeck, Mecklenberg-Schwerin, Oldenburg, Saxony, etc, Montenegro with lots of earlies, Poland with Poczta Polska o/ps, as well as Czechoslovakia with lots of 'Posta Ceskoslovenska' o/ps inc. many genuine, plus first airposts again including genuine, Turkey with military stamps, Monaco, Spain with don Quixotes, airposts etc, as well as range of Cape Juby, Saar, Portuguese Colonies, Suriname tete-beche, Dutch East Indies, etc, etc. We have only been able to scrape the surface in this description of this fascinating reference holding formed over many decades. Closer viewing, page for page is necessary to get a better idea of what is here. Some books better than others, with much stamps on stamps, making this a very challenging viewing, yet most worthwhile.
