5012 ogOc   imageMONTENEGRO, AN EXCEPTIONAL COLLECTION DURING THE ITALIAN OCCUPATION YEARS, MANY EXPERTIZED,

Fabulous specialised collection mint, used and on cover, including some extremely scarce items and rare material and some not even listed in Sassone. The album starts strongly with the 1941 first o/ps on King Peter II issues complete mint never hinged with the key values signed by Diena (Sassone #S.1, cat. &euro,1000) as well as the errors on the 25p black, the vertical overprint (#1c, cat. &euro,1000) and overprint on reverse (#1d, cat. &euro,700), both with Raybaudi certificates. Then the 1942 red cross surcharges on airposts complete mint, again all signed Diena (#S.6, cat. &euro,1200), the 'Lire' o/ps on Peter II, the 1943 Njegos series and Cerna Gora airposts complete mint never hinged, the two series also complete used on card (#S.13, cat. &euro,480) as well as a spectacular side margin block of 16 of the 5cts violet imperf horizontally (#60a, cat. &euro,1120 as singles). Then follows the 1941 airpost o/ps series (#S.14 and #S.17) with key values signed Diena and the 'Cerna Gora' o/p postage dues complete on cover. An extraordinary group of the original 1941 handstamp overprints follows, with further surcharges series for series of the large and small stars in red and violet, all never hinged, including large stars on Njegos issues and airposts, as well as small stars on postage dues complete, mostly signed. This and the Sassone listed material lists for over &euro,30,000+++ and of course some of the material here is virtually priceless, it is that rare. An extraordinary opportunity to buy one of the best collections of this area that we have ever had the pleasure to offer, please study photoplates.

5013 ogO   imageMONTENEGRO,

An excellent specialised collection of over 400 pre-WWI stamps housed in a Lindner hingeless album, accompanied by extensive write-up, incorporating errors and other unusual material, including good back of the book well ordered logically into the collection. There are over 100 unoverprinted Prince Nicholas I issues here, virtually all different, organised by the various printings, with highlights including 1874 early printings with mint 15n yellow bister (#6), 1879 middle printing 10n blue scarce perf (#12a) superb used with perfect cds strike, through to 1893 late printings organised by the different perforation types and papers, etc. Then the 1893 overprints are also in-depth, followed by 1902 defins with imperf sheet-marginal strip of four of the 4h green (#59) mint never hinged, 1905/06 Constitution issues with dramatic shifted o/ps, etc. Then there is a wonderful group of more than a dozen overprints of the Montenegro government in exile, seemingly complete 'S.P. du M. - Bordeaux', on French Sowers and Mersons to 1fr, as well as highly unusual return labels, including the large blue 'retour a l'envoyeur' label with arms of Montenegro showing double printing. All of these are with signatures - an extremely scarce group of non-Scott listed material, in excellent condition for such seldom seen material. Another fascinating section is the extraordinary range of large imperf King Nicholas I types again not listed in Scott, possibly rejected designs issues, in para denominations up to 1 perper black and green with cyrillic overprints showing many errors inc 25pa blue block of four printed on gummed side, double o/ps etc, etc. Also included is a working section of hundreds of mint and used stamps through to extensive Fiume, neatly displayed in a notebook. The 19th century issues appear to be selected for superb cancels including beautiful examples of the 7n lilac and 15n bister with blue cancels, another 7n lilac with superb &lsquo,Austro-Hungarian&rsquo, cds in roman alphabet, as well as pairs on piece, 1874 early printings, etc, also lots of shades and other varieties inc. '1495' instead of '1493' seen on constitution 2n yellow, 15n brown perf 12 mint (#28a), etc, etc. There is also some very interesting Fiume with mint and used multiples on the 'Fiume' o/ps, as well as franco and valore globale surcharges, governo provvisorio, express, etc. This collection comes from the same source as the excellent Croatia and Lubiana that we have in this auction, it shows the same pattern of scholarship, as well as possessing many items that are seldom seen on the market today, offered intact as received.

5021 ogO   imageNICARAGUA.

Virtually complete collection from the first issues to the 1970s, housed in a Scott specialty album, mainly mint and so well filled it would be easier to describe what is not here. In fact most of the few empty spaces here are for delisted numbers. The collection begins with all the 1862 liberty cap issues inc. 5cts black #2 mint, then complete through to the 20th century inc. 1895 5cts mint (#76), 1896 maps with both 5 pesos used (#89, #89I), 1897 maps complete with watermarked 2 pesos and 5 pesos used (#98H/98I), 1898s complete mint (#99/109, #109A/109M, the unwatermarked 5p unused), etc. The surcharges of the early 20th century are only missing the scarce #225F for completion, with the 1909 10cts surcharges on high values present mint (#235/236), as well as the elusive 1913 'medio cvo. Cordoba' surcharge mint (#337K, signed) and the surcharged blue officials complete (#340/348) with the scarce 5 pesos accompanied by Philatelic Foundation certificate. Further highlights in the 20th century regular issues are the 1918/21 surcharges on 20cts slate used (#365/365D, #376/377, #391/392, #393G), Rivas and Leon-Sauce railroad issues complete (#570/579), 1949 sports souvenir sheets complete mint, etc. The airposts are similarly strong with #C10 unused (with APS cert), #C30 mint, o/ps on Managua post office types complete (#C32/C48), Rivas and Leon-Sauce railroad issues again complete (#C67/C76), 1936 10cts on 20cts green mint (#C135, signed three times, possible extremely shallow thin at top mentioned for accuracy's sake only), 1948 sports souvenir sheets complete (#C308a), etc. Other good back of the book includes the airpost officials mint, highly complete officials and lots of Zelaya and Cabo Gracias a Dios provincial issues. A very pleasing collection to go through, with a good number of items hardly ever seen on the market today especially in collection format, presented in their individual Scott number category on the album pages, often with printing numbers in the low hundreds. An excellent opportunity for the specialist, dealer or collector to buy Nicaragua virtually complete.

5022 ogO   NICARAGUA, EXTRAORDINARY ACCUMULATION,

This represents decades of buying from auction and privately, now offered with a must-sell instruction. This was a 'work in progress' that was never fulfilled. There are many 1000s of stamps mint and used, yet relatively light duplication, often pleasant, of this increasingly popular country, with much emphasis on 19th century and early 20th century. Material is also housed on old-fashioned album leaves from many different collections, glassine envelopes galore with plenty of classics form the first issues onwards, old stock pages, very crusty dusty, clearly with huge potential. Material seen includes many dozens of genuine first issues in glassines including many 5cts blacks inc. 1862 #2 on yellowish paper unused and another scarce mint with gum, 1869/71 white papers with several unused (#5) and quantity of the rouletted 5cts mint, across the board through to the ,20th century with for example, good 1930s issues in complete series inc. 1932 Managua earthquake (#556/568), Rivas Railroad x2 with both shades of the 15cts (#570/574, #574a), Leon-Sauce Railroad (#575/579), 1933 flag series (#587/599), etc. The above is just to give a flavor of the diverse range and the depth of material here. The back of the book and the airmails also have enormous scope as well. Several weeks of work here representing over 15 years of buying &ndash, a good winter's project if ever there was one.

Collection of several 100s of mint and used stamps, housed on quadrille pages written-up in an unusual Chasseral album. The first page is impressive with over 30 of the first issue 'liberty cap' over mountain types with the 1862 perf issues on yellowish paper, followed by the 1869/77 perf and roulette issues on white paper, mostly mint though with some useful used as well. Then 1882s used to the 20cts and complete mint, 1891 bounty/Ceres complete with mint 10 pesos, 1892 Columbus complete and used, 1893 'liberty cap' complete mint to 10p and most other series to 1900. The 20th century is also well represented including 1901 surcharges with color varieties, 1904 o/ps inc. inverted, an interesting range of 1913 o/p and 'cts de Cordoba' surcharges on locomotives and 35cts green and brown with errors, lots of airpost overprints, etc, through to official overprints in complete series, airpost officials, telegraphs with 10 pesos values, Bluefields Zelaya and Cabo o/ps, etc. Completely uncataloged and though there most likely will be Seebecks present there is much substance here and further discoveries will be made, so please inspect carefully page for page.
