3 collections, the first is a mainly unmounted mint collection from 1959 to 1970 in an album including most issues and miniature sheets etc. The second is a mainly mint collection from 1955 to 1969 in an album including range of commemoratives sets, miniature sheets, etc. The third consists of several hundred stamps mint and used, again mostly modern of which, like the other collections are all one of a kind, inc miniature sheets with substantial face from both commems and defins, also seen 1950s National Parks Ise-Shima and Unzen, etc. If there is overlap it will only be one of a kind on the modern mint. A most pleasant trio, ideal for a dealer looking to replenish stocks or for a collector looking for solid post WW2 Japan.
A very interesting hoard of material, many 100s of stamps mint and used, somewhat chaotically presented but definitely worth studying with the distinct probability of finds. Please view carefully the little packets of Lithuanian occupation stamps here, mostly unopened, at least at the time of viewing, which look particularly interesting with considerable potential requiring some work and research. Patience will not only pay dividends here, but also the same with the postal history which is exceptional, notwithstanding the encompassing range of regular Memel and subsequent Lithuanian occupation stamps. There are at least a few dozen items of postal history including combined occupation and regular Memel issues, as well as scarce registered commercial usage particularly during the occupation period, seldom seen. The holding is one of the best of its type that we have had the pleasure to offer and is similar to a lot we had 2 auctions ago, completely original. Please study some of the photoplates to get an idea of what is here, especially for the postal history. (Image)
1856/1990s, mint and used, housed on unusually well-filled Scott specialty pages, with excellent 19th century and particularly strong Civil War, including many seldom seen stamps. Highlights include imperf Hidalgos with horizontal blue 'Apam' on 1/2r blue, 1856 8r lilac and 1861 4r black on yellow mint (#5, #9) both with Chiapas o/ps and wide margins, 8r black on red used with Tampico o/p and the 8r green on red brown mint and used, the former with Soltepec o/p. Then Maximilians with lithos complete, followed by an exceptional showing of the 1868 Hidalgos with all the main issues present, including a superb wide margined example of the scarce imperf 100cts brown on brown used (#51), the perf 100cts brown on brown used (#57) and without period perf 50cts unused without o/p, as well as 100cts mint (#69/70), leading on to Juarez similarly strong, all mint with no empty spaces including the 1882 thin paper 1ct brown and 2cts dark violet both without o/p (#131a, #132b). Next are the 1884 banknote Hidalgos complete mint to 5 pesos in exemplary condition, the 10 pesos is used with faults (#150/162), 1885s mint complete (#165/173), 1886 numerals complete with a spectacular example of the key 20cts (#174/183), good range of colored lines, 1894 20cts compound perf mint (#240A), etc. Then mail train series with 1898 12cts imperf pair (#285a), 1899s, 1903s and 1910s all complete mint (#294/320). The Civil War follows starting with three packed pages of Sonora seal issues, occasional minor faults but much better condition than normally encountered including two of the scarce 5cts perf (#321), one used, the other being the 'centavob' error used on piece (#321a), plus the embossed issues with extremely scarce green seal varieties on 1ct and 2cts unused and 3cts used (#322a, #323a, #325a), then 'Victoria de Torreon' o/ps to 10cts red mint (#362/366), 1914 monogram o/ps complete mint (#370/385), 'Gobierno Constitucionalista' on eagles 15cts mint never hinged and 20cts used (#421/422), 'Villa' monograms inc. on 1 peso blue and black (#447), 'Carranza' o/ps complete mint (#482/499), then 'G.P.de M.' tablet o/ps virtually complete mint including on Transitorios (#559/565) and many extra varieties of o/p reading downward and inverted inc. top values. Regular issues recommence with 1917/20 personalities complete mint never hinged (#608/628) inc. 1 peso blue error of color (#627b), and then continue virtually complete with scarce 20th century issues eg 1946 15cts monument mint never hinged (#795A), and almost all the elusive high values through the mid-20th century. The back of the book is also impressive with highlights including airposts #C1, #C1a, #C27 all mint never hinged, 1932 airpost official (#CO18, small thin), 1898 20cts brown rose official mint (#O48), 1895 officials complete mint to top value 10 pesos mail train (#O10/O22), 1910 officials with two of the 5 pesos carmine and black mint (#O74), 1911s complete mint (#O75/O85) also with two 5 pesos one never hinged, 1915/16s with double and inverted o/ps, 1918 personalities officials complete mint never hinged except 20cts and 30cts unused (#O113/O120), 1921/24s complete mint (#O155/O164), 1927/28 mint high values #O191 to #O194 with the latter three all never hinged, etc, etc. Although occasionally this collector has pencilled very old catalog prices under some of the stamps, it is quite clear that this ,might have a Scott retail today of between $40,000 and $50,000, perhaps more. Collections of this caliber are hardly ever available on the market today, some of the individual stamps here are particularly scarce and valuable, a highly recommended viewing. Please study some of the photoplates to get a flavor of what is here. (Image)
Three old-fashioned stockbooks and an excellent classical collection housed on quadrille pages, with well over 1000 stamps, highly specialised and with some very elusive and scarce issues present to delight the specialist. Some of the areas that are particularly important to view thoroughly are the 1864 perf Hidalgos, the gothic type 'Mexico' o/ps and the studies of the district names, on an issue by issue basis. The imperf Hidalgo first issues are very impressive with page after page of shades, plates, cancels, etc. Some of the highlights here are the 1/2r blue #1 with rare Chiapas district o/p, ten of the 4r red (#4) with a range of districts represented including superb examples on piece and one tied by boxed cancel on cover with Toluca o/p., leading on to 1861s with scarce Tlalpujahua district o/p on 2r (#8), a superb group of the 4r black on yellow (#9), one with intriguing and certainly unusual gothic Mexico o/p, then a very attractive 4r without o/p with Tuxtepec straight line cancel (#10b), followed by both the 8r types, the green on brown with Mazatlan o/p (#11), the black on red with Morelia o/p (#12). Next are the 1864s with enormous potential, including the 1 real red (#14) and 1 peso black (#17) both with Saltillo o/ps, the latter on the correct paper, though with faults, as well as a 2r blue (#15) with Saltillo o/p and tied on large part of cover by 'franco Saltillo' postmark, the stamp cut in half along the line of the district o/p before being affixed as a whole to the cover, probably to make the correct rate as expedient. Then there is an in-depth study of the challenging 1864/66 eagles, followed by extensive overprinted Maximilians inc. 2x lithographed 7cts used (#26) and 2x engraved 50cts unused (#34) as well as a block of eight of the 25cts. Other good areas are the gothic o/ps with superb signed examples of the 4r red on yellow used, the 1868 Hidalgos with 100cts brown on brown perf used (#57) and lots of other 100cts types leading on to 'anotado' o/ps inc. perf 12cts and 25cts both signed (#77/78). Then a fabulous collection as last auctioned by HR Harmers of London in 1959, offered today intact! This begins with the 1874/77 Hidalgo and 1879/83 Juarez issues with everything organised by district, the more unusual including Acapulco, Aguascalientes, Chalco, Chihuahua, Ciudad Bravos, , C. Guzman, C. Victoria (on attractive 25cts with partial Banknote Co. inscription), Cocula, Cuautitlan, etc through to Monterrey in red, Parral, Tacubaya, Tlaxcala on 50cts green, Tula, Tuxpan, Zamora and Zacatecas in purple, etc. There are even errors such as '45' for '54' misplaced district on 10cts Juarez used of Mexico, etc. This description is only the tip of the iceberg of this thoroughly original holding that has lain undisturbed since it was formed in the 1940s and 50s. A most exciting viewing for the Mexico specialist with many further discoveries to be made. (Image)
A fabulous mint and used collection housed in two almost completely filled Scott Specialty albums, the second album being for the airposts, clearly put together by a perfectionist collector and incl certificates, starting off with an impressive first page of Hidalgos and eagles, the Hidalgo imperfs with 1856s to 8r used, a very attractive example with Puebla district o/p (#1/5), then 1861s also complete used with both 8r types (#6/12), all the reales eagles (#19/25), followed by lithographed Maximilians complete mint (#26/30), italic 'Mexico' o/ps with a wonderful group of the four stamps on gray blue paper (#42/45), 1868 Hidalgos with all four series to the 100cts black on brown used, through to the 1870s Hidalgos inc. 1875/77 watermarked series on thick paper complete mint (#112/116) with pre-printing paper fold on the 5cts brown, leading on to Benito Juarez issues inc. 1882s on thin paper complete (#131/145) with the 25cts rose scarce superb used cds (#139), 1884 banknote Hidalgos complete used with the 10 pesos top value superb and signed (#150/162), rarely seen this nice. Then an excellent section of the numerals only missing a handful, including almost all the ruled lines, followed by the mail trains equally impressive with the 1895s complete to 10p used (#256), 1896/97s with the 50cts superb used with blue cds accompanied by certificate, 1897/98 and 1898 with and without watermark series to 1 peso gray browns. The 20th century in exceptional mint quality throughout, with strong Civil War period inc. lots of early Sonora including embossed, monograms series to 5 pesos inc. 'Villa' monograms complete mint with certificate on the 5p (#465), 'Carranza' complete (#482/499) with the scarce 15cts eagle signed, then 'Corbata' o/ps on 1910s onwards complete (#517/573), all in outstanding quality even on the scarce 5cts orange eagle (#539) and 4cts blue violet 'transitorio' (#561), etc, leading through to the 1917/20 personalities complete mint (#608/628), 1923 monuments complete (#634/641), 'Habilitado 1931' o/ps complete (#676/682), etc, etc.The second album also very good with airpost virtually complete save the university from #C1 onwards, excellent colors hardly exposed to light through to the better series of 1930s and 1940s, page after page of completion leading on to the airpost 1950s with various different series to 1950s, through to the 1960s, as well as comprehensive range of miniature sheets, the special delivery stamps complete, insured letter stamps, postage dues, parcel post and postal tax complete. Virtually perfection- that word basically describes the extent of this wonderful Mexico collection, only a few of the classics being in mixed condition. An outstanding opportunity and a delightful collection to view.
A well filled Scott Speciality album, with particular strength in postal history from the 19th century, as well as classic stamps. The latter includes more interesting items such as Maximilian 13cts blue strip of five mint with date and number only, 1884 banknote Hidalgos inc. 50cts green imperf pair superb used etc. Postal history with 1860 Hidalgos on cover the 1886 6cts green Wells Fargo stationery used, banknote numeral postal stationery mint and used inc. Wells Fargo and Hidalgo Express covers, useful Civil War period inc. tricolor 'transitorio' cover of 1914 and fascinating 5cts orange stationery cover used in 1914, accompanied by 'officially sealed' censor label and pointing finger 'return to sender' cachets in Spanish and English, leading on to extensive sonora issues inc. varieties, lots more postal history with delightful colorful covers with advertising etc, early FDCs and flights to investigate, useful back of the book and much more. The unusual quality of the postal history here has to be seen to be appreciated, so please inspect thoroughly. The stamp collection is chronologically ordered with the postal history, good ,19th ,century and mostly complete mint ,20th ,century. An opportunity to buy one man&rsquo,s collection of postal history , with comprehensive stamps integrated chronologically within it, an impressive and enjoyable viewing.

Imperf Hidalgos, inc 1/2r blue marginal pair with Pachuca district name and red straight line postmarks, 2r green with sidewalk margins all round and Durango district name, an 8r green, several Gothic 'Mexico' district o/ps, 2r black with visual pre-printing paper fold, etc. Then 1864 perf Hidalgo 1r red with Saltillo district, a useful range of Maximilians with 25cts in blue without o/p, 1860s and 1870s Hidalgos, banknote issues of the 1880s numerals to 2 pesos, coloured lines types on the numerals and lots of perf varieties, through to Civil War issues 1915/16 4cts carmine with 'Ceatro' instead of Cuarto error on cover in strip of 5 with normal, most impressive. The ,20th ,century proceeds with plenty of mint series, blocks of four, m/s, etc. Many sleepers present, inspection recommended.
